What is GEX, and why do these levels matter?

GEX measures how much market makers must buy or sell to stay hedged as price moves. Where dealer gamma is large and positive, hedging dampens moves: price gets pinned, and the call and put walls act as support and resistance. Where it turns negative, hedging amplifies moves, so trends and breakdowns run faster. GammaTape turns that into a handful of concrete price levels for the session.

Where do the levels come from?

From live 0DTE (same-day expiry) option chains. We compute gamma exposure (GEX), call/put walls, zero gamma, max pain and convexity ourselves — nothing is taken on trust — and update them through the session.

How do I get the levels on my chart?

Two ways: the web dashboard (live, history and full session replay), and — on the Max plan — a MotiveWave extension that draws the walls and a net-GEX profile directly on your ES/NQ charts.

Are the MotiveWave levels different from the website's?

Same engine, same walls — but read them carefully. The website charts SPX/NDX in index points; MotiveWave (with Align on) draws those levels on ES/NQ after a basis shift, so the Y-axis numbers are futures prices. Match Weight on both sides (OI is the default). Live tip updates about every few seconds on both.
